The Chateau de Chenonceau is a superb building and perhaps its most impressive feature is the set of arches that straddle the river Cher. Inside there is a vast array of tapestries, paintings, portraits and furniture. Also home to some of France’s most famous Chateaux are Azay-le-Rideau and Saumur. The town of Blois makes a good base for discovering the more green and verdant areas of the Loire including the Forêt de Blois and the Parc Chambord. A visit to the Loire region would not be complete without sampling some of the world famous wines of offer. The vineyards cover many different terrains from gravel terraces in Chinon to the steep slopes of Sancerre and wine-tasting can be done anywhere from small museums to the prestigious Maison de Sancerre and the Villa Quincy.
